The first board meeting of the directors of Connemara West Ltd was held on the 16th of March 1972 in Tullycross. The directors present were Mr Paul Aspell, Mr Malachy Conboy, Mr Michael O’Neill and Mr Joseph O’Toole and the Rev. Fr. E. Tuffy C.C. Padraic Joyce, Director representing Western Regional Tourism Orgnsation was also present and apologies were received from Senator John M Mannion, Director representing Galway County Council.
In attendance at the meeting were the Most Rev. Dr J Cunnane, Archbishop of Tuam, Mr Michael Browne, Chairman of the Western Regional Tourism Organisation Ltd., Mr J.J. Lally, Manager, Western Regional Tourism Organisation Ltd., Mr J. Greevy, Technical Department, Bord Failte, Mr Ray Joyce, Tourism Division Manager, Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited, Mr George O’Malley, Chairman, Rent-an-Irish Cottage Ltd., Mr B. Monahan, Manager, Rent-an-Irish Cottage Ltd., and Mr M. Loftus, Secretary, Rent-an-Irish Cottage Ltd. Apologies were also received from Mr Brendan O’Regan, Chairman, Shannon Free Airport Development Co Ltd and Bord Failte, Mr T McCrum, Bord Failte, Mr D.G. O’Neill, Western Regional Tourism Organisation and Mr Denis Greene, Solicitor.
Mr Michael Conboy, Lettergesh, Renvyle was appointed chairman of the company and Mr Michael O’Neill, Tully, Renvyle, Co Galway was appointed secretary of the company. The main item on the agenda for this first formal meeting was the tenders for the building of the cottages.
