Sustainable Energy Community

Connemara West has been approved as a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. One project already underway is a biomass heating system for the Connemara West Centre. Other projects to be investigated are solar panels and a small-scale anaerobic digester. Reinstating the hydroelectric plant in the National Park is another project with potential, which the National Park is pursuing.

The aim of the SEC is to enable our community to become energy efficient, use renewable energy and consider smart energy solutions. Connemara West is always seeking ideas and suggestions from the community and our stakeholders as to how we can all work towards making our area more sustainable into the future, and what we should focus on.
