Claudia Montgomery and her family travelled to Ireland in August 2023 to donate their family archive to Connemara West. They are descendants from the Wallace family in Tullycross and their mother brought to USA artefacts and items she felt might be interesting after the family house was sold. The family were in Ireland, when Renvyle Thatched Cottages were being built and they admired the ethos of Connemara West and felt now that was be the time to bring the artefacts back to Ireland and donate them to Connemara West. The collection contain photographs, letters, shop keeper’s ledger and drawings and a watercolour by Countess Markievicz. Connemara West are currently working on plans to preserve the archive and how to make selected items in the collection available for local people and family members to exam and for further researchers and students to access the archive.
The Wallace collection was formally handed over to Connemara West at a small function in Tullycross village on the 8th of August 2023 attended by Directors of Connemara West, relatives and local people who knew the family.
