Connemara West welcomes the publication of Ireland’s new rural development strategy ‘Our Rural
Future’, which was launched by Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD and Minister for Rural and Community
Development Heather Humphreys TD on Monday March 29th
.
“The emphasis on digital hubs and remote working in the strategy aligns directly with our proposed
Global Learning and Digital Hub project in Tullycross village” said Dr. Kevin Heanue, Chairman of
Connemara West. The Hub received €1.728 million in funding from the Rural Regeneration and
Development Fund in 2018 although the project is currently on hold due to both COVID-19-related
delays and pending completion of match-funding requirements.
“Together with the Western Development Commission who are the lead partner in the Hub project
and in collaboration with the Department of Rural and Community Development, we intend to move
forward with the project over the coming months”, said Heanue. “We look forward to working with
our other Irish partners, Tomar Trust, Forum Connemara CLG, Galway County Council, NUIG and GMIT,
and our United States partners, the Friends of Connemara and Aquinas College from Michigan and
Lourdes University from Ohio, to play our part in helping to make this element of the government’s
new strategy a reality” he concluded.
