This book tells the story of Sophia Sturge, a remarkable woman from a Birmingham Quaker family who came to Letterfrack and established the Connemara Basket Industry which operated from 1888 to 1905.
Sophia Sturge’s contribution to Letterfrack is a significant part of our heritage which has been well documented by Joan Johnson who is also author of James and Mary Ellis, Background and Quaker Famine Relief in Letterfrack.
